How to Delegate ADA on Cardano with CHIL
Delegating ADA on Cardano means assigning the staking power of your ADA to a stake pool, without transferring your funds to the operator, without handing over your private keys, and without locking your ADA. This guide walks you step by step through delegating to the CHIL pool.
You’ll learn how to set up your own wallet, review a pool’s data, verify CHIL’s pool ID, delegate your ADA, and understand the rewards, costs and conditions of the operation.
If you’re still choosing a wallet, check our Cardano wallet comparison, where we cover Daedalus, Eternl, Lace and GameChanger Wallet in more detail.
Before you start
- You need ADA in a wallet you control, not on an exchange. If your ADA is on an exchange, withdraw it to your own wallet first.
- Delegating doesn’t move your funds: custody and your keys stay yours at all times.
- Never share your seed phrase, private key or PIN.
- Your first delegation registers your stake key on-chain and may include a refundable deposit defined by the protocol, currently around 2 ADA. Always check the amount shown by your wallet.
Step 1 — Choose a compatible wallet
The four wallets described on our site may suit you depending on your needs and their current compatibility:
| Wallet | Type / focus | Might suit you if… |
|---|---|---|
| Daedalus | Full-node desktop wallet | You prefer to validate the blockchain locally and accept a more demanding sync. |
| Eternl | Light wallet for mobile and browser | You want a practical option for daily use, staking and DApps. |
| Lace | Light wallet and Web3 platform | You’re interested in a lightweight experience for digital assets and Web3 apps. |
| GameChanger Wallet | Light, non-custodial web wallet | You’re interested in DApps, QR connections and advanced Cardano features. |
For features, platforms and caveats for each one, see the full Cardano wallet comparison. If you use a Ledger or Trezor, confirm compatibility with your chosen app and always keep your keys under your own control.
Step 2 — Learn how to choose a stake pool
Before delegating, don’t rely solely on the ticker or a promised return. Check the pool’s current data on an independent explorer.
- Margin and fixed cost.
- Recent block production.
- Saturation and activity.
- Pledge and operator identity.
- Operating history and verifiable on-chain data.
No single parameter guarantees better rewards. The outcome depends on the network, the pool, block production, and when you delegate.
Step 3 — Find the CHIL ticker
- Open your wallet’s delegation or staking center.
- Search for the ticker CHIL.
- Verify that the pool ID matches the official one exactly:
pool10eltx2wej46e62ulmwzm35xfu0azu47yvpjper7gwhncqe74vg6 - Cross-check the data on an independent explorer: CHIL on Cexplorer.
Don’t check only the name or ticker. Always verify the full pool ID.
Step 4 — Delegate your ADA
- Confirm that the full pool ID and parameters are correct.
- Review the margin, fixed cost and amounts shown in the transaction.
- Sign the delegation inside your own wallet.
- Save the receipt or transaction identifier.
Delegation is a low-cost on-chain operation. Your ADA stays in your wallet, you don’t hand over your keys to the pool, and you can keep using your funds.
Optionally, you can also delegate from the explorer by connecting your wallet: delegate via Cexplorer.
When rewards arrive
The protocol distributes rewards per epoch — roughly five days — when the pool produces blocks. Since the snapshot cycle takes a few epochs to reflect your delegation, your first reward usually appears between 15 and 20 days after delegating, depending on the timing.
The amount depends on the pool’s block production, the registered balance, network parameters and delegation timing. As a recent reference, it can sit around 2.8%–3% annually, but this is variable and not guaranteed. Check current data on Cexplorer.
CHIL pool parameters
| Ticker | CHIL |
|---|---|
| Margin | 2.9% of epoch rewards |
| Fixed cost | 340 ADA per epoch |
| Pledge | 35,000 ADA committed by the operator |
These parameters are public and verifiable on-chain, but they can change. Check current values on Cexplorer before delegating. They are not a promise of returns.
Security before you sign
- Download wallets only from their official sites.
- Verify the domain before connecting a DApp.
- Review the address, amount and permissions requested.
- Don’t sign operations you don’t understand.
- Be wary of links sent via private messages.
ChileStakePo never needs your seed phrase, private key, PIN or recovery codes.
Frequently asked questions
Are my ADA transferred to the pool?
No. In native Cardano delegation, your ADA stays associated with your wallet. The pool operator never receives your funds or your private keys.
Does delegating lock my ADA?
No. You can keep using your ADA while it’s delegated.
Can I switch pools?
Yes. You can redelegate to another pool at any time with a new transaction.
Do I lose my rewards if I switch pools?
Rewards already earned don’t disappear when you redelegate. Always check your wallet’s status and the protocol’s current conditions.
What happens if the pool doesn’t produce blocks?
Rewards depend on the pool producing blocks. There is no guaranteed return.
How much does delegating cost?
The operation may include a network fee and a deposit defined by the protocol. Your wallet will show the amounts before you sign.
How do I verify I’m delegating to CHIL?
Check the full pool ID and cross-check it on Cexplorer.
Is delegating ADA the same as delegating to a DRep?
No. Delegating ADA assigns staking power to a stake pool. Delegating to a DRep belongs to Cardano’s governance and voting power. See the Cardano governance guide for that topic.
